Cambelts

What is a cambelt?
The cambelt (timing belt) is one of the most important components of your car engine. Essentially, it is designed to keep the bottom half of the engine in sync with the top half.

How often should I change my cambelt?
Most vehicle manufacturers recommend a cambelt change every 40,000 to 60,000 miles or roughly every 5 years. If you don’t change your cambelt when it’s due, you run the risk of causing a great deal of damage to your car’s engine – a snapped cambelt can cause expensive and serious damage.

What happens if my cambelt snaps?
It depends on what kind of engine you have; in an interference-type engine serious, expensive damage can be caused by a snapped cambelt, in a non-interference engine, no damage occurs and a new belt can just be popped on.

Give us a call at The Garage Walton, if you have any questions or concerns about cambelts – our team of technicians are here to help and advise.
